I get questions all the time. Here’s a popular one I receive from parents….
Q: We really don’t want our daughter writing essays in the late summer and fall. When do you think we can start with you?
A: Great question! Summers are busy for applicants – camp, a summer internship, a family vacations before senior year. It’s inevitable they’ll be writing essays. But getting a head start helps a lot. I have many applicants start their personal statement in the spring. This is the hard essay because it’s so labor intensive. Once the story comes into focus, it all gets easier. If the school list is long, get a few supplements (preferably the ED/EA schools) out of the way in June/July. And by the time fall comes and the applicant is back in school, a leisurely “one supplement per week” will work just fine.
