Q: Can I write my personal statement about an internship I did?

A: Yes, and no. Yes, you can, but the entire essay shouldn’t be about that experience. Why? Because it’s already on your activities list and basically, you’re just bringing that to life. Plus, these essays tend to feel like a bio of what you did. Often applicants get so wrapped up in the details, they forget to write about who they are. Also, that internship is better used in your supplements to explain the interest in your major. Maybe better to just use the internship as a jumping off point. I am a big proponent of a personal story, something unrelated to your major.
