I get questions all the time. Here’s a popular one I receive from an applicant…
Q: Will this year be as awful as last year?
A: Ugh. I can hear the frustration in your voice, my friend. And I share it with you. I wish I could say it will ease up a lot, or even a little. But sadly, no one has the answer. There are just so, so many variables. Like:
1. How many more or fewer applicants will the schools take this year than they did last year. If they take more, is it because they have room, more dorms, etc. If they take fewer, is it because they want to reduce the class size or the stress on the infrastructure of the campus. And what about transfer applicants? What does this year’s crop look like. I know they love transfers and they might want room for them. The transfer applicants I worked with are ALL being accepted very early.
2. Will the test optional rates still hold. Schools are looking at those kids from 2020 and 2021. If they’re doing well, they may continue to accept them in droves. If not, schedule an SAT and ACT because you’re going to need it.
3. Will more kids apply to school. Will more girls than boys continue to apply.
Lots of questions. Sorry, not quite the answers you were looking for. In closing, take tests, load up on good extras curriculars, and apply to the schools you have the best shot at.
