Individual College Supplement Essays
The individual college supplement essays present the applicant with a completely different challenge to the Common Application essay. The Personal Statement is like a first date, a chance to introduce your best self – while the supplement essays are akin to a second date, where you dig deeper and explain yourself in finer detail. The supplements are a way to explore your academic goals, professional dreams, and personal aspirations.
In these essays, you are expected to express what you want from that college, why you are choosing your major, and show what you will bring to the college campus and community at large.
The supplements aren’t just a venue to itemize accomplishments or tick off activities. A powerful supplement essay draws a through line from what you have done inside and outside of high school all the way to what you hope to do in college and beyond.
I am familiar with the preferences and taste of all the schools, I understand what different admissions officers are looking for in these essays, and I have a history of applicants getting accepted there.
By working together, we will demonstrate how you and your ideal school are the perfect fit. Universities and colleges want to be excited to have you on their campus for the next four years, and my proven results can help you get there.
- Via telephone, we brainstorm the school’s supplement essay. This in-depth interview/ brainstorm session is where I help the applicant craft an answer which tells admissions that they know who they are and what they hope to gain from that particular school. Then, I teach the applicant how to create a structure for the essay, which they use to write a first draft.
- After this, we discuss the first draft, identifying ways to make it stronger. Together, we agree to notes which make that supplement more interesting and more insightful.
- Next up is the second review, before turning that draft into a final one.

“My wife and I were never involved in the essays, which is exactly how we wanted it! You’ll definitely be hearing from us next year with our younger daughter.”
